The word “hosting” doesn't describe a single service, but several services which provide various functions to a domain address. Having a website and e-mails, as an illustration, are two individual services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so most people consider them as one single service. In reality, each and every domain has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, that specifies where the site for the domain name is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the e-mails for the domain. For example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record is mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a site or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain address has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the web browser request or the email will be forwarded to the correct server. The concept behind working with separate records is that the two services employ different web protocols and you may have your website hosted by one company and the e-mails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account through our company and you want to move either your website or your emails to an alternative provider, it is going to take you literally only two mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two, it is not going to take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you change or create isn't going to take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that shows how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for each of your domain addresses or subdomains is really easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan through us. The accounts are maintained using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you can click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you won't experience any issues if you wish to switch your site or e-mails to a different provider while keeping the second service with our company. When needed, you could also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority depending on the recommendations of the new provider.
